ITU and NCA Organises 3rd Conformance and Interoperability Training for ITU Members in Africa Region

The third Conformance and Interoperability (C&I) Training programme for sister members of the ITU in the African Region organised by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) with the support of the National Communications Authority (NCA) has successfully ended. The training, which was held virtually from 16th to 27th November, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic involved about 30 participants from ten African countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Sudan amongst others.

The training primarily focused on the regulatory framework, requirements to set up basic C&I Lab and testing domains of Type Approval laboratories in SAR, RF, DTT and EMF, including specifications and parameters for the specific laboratories.

Addressing participants on behalf of the Director General of the NCA, Joe Anokye at the start of the training, Mr. Isaac Boateng, a Deputy Director of the Regulatory Administration Division expressed his satisfaction with the interest shown in Ghana’s Type Approval set-up and its laboratories by the ITU and sister regulatory agencies across the world. “It is very important for Regulators just like the NCA to enhance their regulatory practices by investing in new-age and state of the art regulatory tools to check for compliance and ensure consumer satisfaction and protection”, he said.

Mr. Boateng added that aside the investment in infrastructure, the NCA has also committed resources in developing the human resource capability of its staff which was evidenced in the successful manner they facilitated previous trainings and was hopeful that the current training will not be an exception. According to him, the NCA has opened its doors to share knowledge with sister regulators both physically and virtually when need be.

This Conformance and Interoperability Training was facilitated by staff of the NCA.
